Located roughly midway between Doncaster and Rotherham, Conisbrough and Denaby sit alongside the River Don and share strong connections, while each retains its own identity and character.
Perhaps the area’s most recognisable landmark is Conisbrough Castle, with its impressive Norman keep overlooking the town. Dating largely from the 12th century, the castle is one of South Yorkshire’s most important historic landmarks and famously helped inspire Sir Walter Scott’s Ivanhoe. Conisbrough’s history stretches back even further, with St Peter’s Church having Anglo-Saxon origins.
Nearby Denaby Main has a proud industrial story. The community developed significantly around coal mining, with Denaby Main Colliery helping shape the village and providing homes and employment for generations of families. That mining heritage remains an important part of the area’s identity today.
But Conisbrough and Denaby aren’t simply about their past – they’re about the people creating their future.
