Around Dearne Valley – Celebrating Our Local Community

Around Dearne Valley is all about celebrating the people, businesses, places and stories that make this part of South Yorkshire such a fantastic and distinctive place to call home.

Sitting between Rotherham, Doncaster and Barnsley, the Dearne Valley connects a collection of proud towns and villages, including communities such as Wath-upon-Dearne, Swinton, Mexborough, Brampton, Bolton-upon-Dearne, Goldthorpe, Thurnscoe and Conisbrough. The River Dearne runs through the heart of the wider valley before eventually joining the River Don, creating a natural link between many of these communities.

The Dearne Valley has an incredible industrial heritage. Coal mining, ironworking, brickmaking and other industries played a major role in shaping the area, providing employment for generations and helping create the strong communities we recognise today.

Although the area’s industrial landscape has changed dramatically, the community spirit remains.

Today, the Dearne Valley combines busy town centres and established residential communities with countryside, woodlands, wetlands and green spaces. Its location also provides strong connections with Rotherham and Doncaster, as well as the wider South Yorkshire region.

Around Magazine Online wants to help celebrate everything that makes the Dearne Valley special.

Through Around Dearne Valley, we’re creating an online community where residents can discover what’s happening locally and where businesses, schools, charities, sports clubs and community organisations can share their news.

We want to hear about the independent business opening its doors, the grassroots football team celebrating a win, the school organising a fundraiser, the community group looking for volunteers and the local people doing incredible things for others.

Supporting local businesses is particularly important. Our communities are filled with independent shops, cafés, restaurants, tradespeople and professional services. Choosing to shop local, eat local and use local services helps support local livelihoods and contributes towards stronger town and village centres.

Around Magazine Online gives those businesses somewhere to be seen, tell their stories and connect directly with people living nearby.
