Rawmarsh & Upper Haugh – A Community with History, Heart and a Bright Future

Rawmarsh and Upper Haugh are communities with a proud South Yorkshire identity, where generations of families, local businesses, schools, sports clubs and community organisations have helped shape the area into what it is today.

Located to the north of Rotherham, Rawmarsh has a fascinating history closely connected with the industries that transformed the wider region. Coal mining, ironworks, steel production and other industries once provided employment for thousands of local people. Historical records from the 19th century describe Rawmarsh parish as including Upper Haugh and Stubbin, demonstrating the long-standing connection between these communities.

Upper Haugh has its own particularly interesting story. The area developed with cottages providing homes for workers associated with the nearby collieries, including New Stubbin Colliery. The historic Upper Haugh School building also has roots stretching back centuries and continues today as the Harding Avenue Drop-In Centre, maintaining its connection with education and community life.

Today, Rawmarsh and Upper Haugh are about much more than their industrial past.

There remains a strong community spirit, supported by residents and organisations working to improve their neighbourhoods. Local priorities include improving green spaces, providing more activities for children and young people, supporting health and wellbeing, reducing social isolation and celebrating the area’s heritage.

Around Magazine Online is proud to work alongside and celebrate the Rawmarsh and Upper Haugh community.

Our aim is simple: to create a dedicated online platform where local people can discover what’s happening on their doorstep while helping independent businesses, community groups, charities, schools and sports clubs reach more people.

We want to share the stories that matter locally – from new businesses and community events to fundraising, local achievements, grassroots sport and the people quietly doing fantastic things for others.

Supporting local businesses is an important part of that mission. Every time somebody chooses a local shop, tradesperson, restaurant or professional service, they are helping strengthen the local economy and supporting the people behind those businesses.

Around Magazine Online gives those businesses an opportunity to become more visible while giving residents another way to discover what’s available locally.

Most importantly, we want Rawmarsh and Upper Haugh residents to be involved.

This is your community, your businesses, your events and your stories. Around Magazine Online wants to help bring them together, celebrate what’s great about the area and create an online community that everyone can be part of.

Rawmarsh & Upper Haugh – local people, local businesses and local stories, all in one place.
